Re: [gembud] Long delay in garp display of model file list

How much RAM?
Is LDM and GEMPAK on the same server??
if so that may be your problem...both are competing for memory

Subject: [gembud] Long delay in garp display of model file list

Has anyone seen this?

We have extremely long delays in garp displaying available times for a given model choice in the Model Plan View selection window. I've experimented with reducing the number of files in a model directory and that seems to reduce the wait time. But sometimes the wait is a minute or two, sometimes indefinitely. I thought maybe it was that there were no named fdf directories in comet/garp/fdf/scalar or vector so I copied some for them. eg., for a modelkey of eta218, I just copied the existing eta212 directory, renaming it to eta218. That seemed to work for a bit, but later it doesn't have any effect all.

The $GEMDATA is a 100 Mb network NFS mount from a FreeBSD 8.0 on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 and 1 TB SATA drive on a SAS controller. The LDM is LDM 6.8.1; GEMPAK is 5.11.4 (pre Feb. '10) on Mac OS X 10.5.

This delay is also observed if $GEMDATA is from an older host running FreeBSD 6.0 and 2 striped 300GB SCSI drives.
