As you discovered, the first suggestion we gave with NCML is incorrect, so
we would like to retract that solution.

Digging into this more deeply, the real problem is that this is swath type
data therefore the gridded spatial domains are not  constant. These cannot
be aggregated along the time dimension. This is in contrast to, say,
typical model data which operates on constant grids with respect to time.

So, in conclusion, unfortunately, the IDV cannot to do what you wish
presently. We are making plans to better handle swath data which we aim to
do eventually.
