A logarithmic color table option would be useful.  You can use the linear color 
tables to make an approximate
log scale as in this example. The finer detail you need at the low end, the 
more color values you need.

I have a question: is there a way to view data using a logarithmic color scale? (An example from out field: log of the magnitude of ice surface velocity draped over ice upper surface elevation.)
