[idvusers] How do I bring point obs into IDV

I was wondering if there is a way to bring in point observations to IDV that
are from past years?  I know there is a way to do real-time obs, but I'm
looking to bring in obs that I have on file from a while back.  If it is
possible, do the obs have to be in netcdf format, or can they be in an ascii
file?
