Since the close integration of netcdf with hdf5, it has become more and more 
unlikely
that a freely available rpm is of any value. It would be nice if somebody would 
provide
a current package of netcdf4/hdf5/hdf5/hdfeos2/hdfeos5 full integrated. An 
additional
problem with such a package is that compiler quirks may make it necessary to 
have
different packages for gcc, icc, pgcc  et al. We have machines with several 
versions
in the integrated package.
