Re: [netcdfgroup] netcdf 4.3.0 and netcdf fortran installation

Hello all,

This is, in fact, a mistake on our part when porting over to github. Simply adding the 'configure' script and accompanying files generated by the autotools did not work, and at the time I was not sure why. The short term solution was to require autotools and to run `autoreconf -i -f` when pulling from git.

As of Monday, this issue has been fixed with the netcdf-c library. The current plan is to leave the development branch alone, but `releases` (under tags) will include the configure script (from 4.3.1-rc2 onwards). I hope to shortly make the same fix with the Fortran and C++ repositories.

Sorry for the inconvenience all; it will be addressed soon!

Thanks. That may be so (the use of auotconf and automake), but since this is
where the main link now takes you and it is not consistent with the install
instructions, it can leave people bewildered.

I imagine it will get straightened out, in the meantime if he goes to the links
I sent there are files that will work per the instructions.

I believe that the general approach for many GitHub projects is that one have
to use automake, autoconf etc. to configure the configure script as that is apt
to change frequently.
Only when releases are made publicly available will the configure script be
generated and shipped. So unless they plan to update the configure script
frequently in their repo I think it is on purpose.

Kind regards Nick

It looks like there is a mistake in their Github repository. Until a more
official response comes, you might try:

http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/downloads/netcdf/netcdf-fortran/index.jsp

I have been using the Fortran-4.4-beta1 release recently, because if your
gfortran is of a late enough version to use I believe it is the Fortran2003 C
bindings, as it seems to simplify the compilation process.

Hi,

After installed netcdf 4.3.0, I tried to install netcdf-fortran 4.2.
I followed the instruction of this page

However, there is no file configure in the netcdf-fortran directory:
