SUBJECT CHANGES TO NORTH TEXAS PUBLIC FORECASTS EFFECTIVE... 400
             A.M. CST APR 1 1997.

A...FORT WORTH/DALLAS METROPOLITAN FORECAST TO BE
REPLACED BY TARRANT AND DALLAS COUNTIES ZONE FORECASTS
...AND...WACO AND VICINITY FORECAST TO BE REPLACED BY
             MC LENNAN COUNTY ZONE FORECAST...

B...3- TO 5-DAY EXTENDED FORECAST TO BE ADDED TO ALL
             NORTH TEXAS ZONE FORECASTS

ON TUESDAY...APRIL 1 1997 AT 400 AM CST...TWO CHANGES WILL BE MADE
REGARDING THE FORECAST PRODUCTS ISSUED BY THE FORT WORTH/DALLAS
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE /NWS/ FORECAST OFFICE FOR NORTH TEXAS.

A. ONE CHANGE WILL BE THE DISCONTINUATION OF THE FORT WORTH/
DALLAS AND WACO LOCAL FORECASTS. BACK ON OCTOBER 1 1993...THE NWS
DESIGNATED EACH COUNTY IN TEXAS AS A SEPARATE ZONE AND ASSIGNED
EACH NEW SMALLER AREA A ZONE FORECAST NUMBER. PREVIOUSLY EACH
FORECAST ZONE MIGHT HAVE BEEN COMPRISED OF 3 TO 8 COUNTIES. THIS
CHANGE GIVES THE NWS GREATER FLEXIBILITY IN ITS ZONE FORECAST
PROGRAM TO IMPROVE FORECAST ACCURACY FOR BENEFIT OF ALL USERS.

SINCE THE FORT WORTH/DALLAS METROPOLITAN FORECAST IS ESSENTIALLY
THE SAME AS THE TEXAS ZONE FORECAST NUMBERS 118 AND 119 /TARRANT
AND DALLAS COUNTIES/ ...CURRENT USERS OF THE FORT WORTH/DALLAS
METROPOLITAN FORECAST CAN REFER TO THESE ZONE FORECASTS.
SIMILARLY...THE WACO AND VICINITY FORECAST IS THE SAME AS THE TEXAS
ZONE FORECAST NUMBER 159 /MC LENNAN COUNTY/...AND THEREFORE USERS
SHOULD REFER TO THIS ZONE FORECAST PRODUCT. SEE TABLE A BELOW FOR
HEADER IDENTIFIER INFORMATION. FOR THOSE WHO USE THE UNIVERSAL
GENERIC CODES /UGC/...THE TEXAS ZONE FORECAST USES THE /Z/ FORM OF
THE CODE...WHICH IS THE SAME AS THE USED IN SHORT-TERM FORECASTS.

TO ENSURE RECEIPT OF THIS FORECAST INFORMATION...IT WILL BE
NECESSARY FOR WEATHER WIRE SUBSCRIBERS TO CONTACT GTE/CONTEL AND
HAVE THE PRODUCT IDENTIFIER...FTWZFPTX...ADDED TO YOUR PERMANENT
DOWNLOAD FILE. BECAUSE OF FREQUENT UPDATES...WE RECOMMEND THAT
USERS TO STORE SEVERAL VERSIONS OF THE FTWZFPTX TO HELP ASSURE
THAT THE DESIRED ZONE FORECAST IS AVAILABLE WHEN REQUESTED.
