SUBJECT: Changes to the NWS Production Suite

1. The new Central Computer System (Mist/Dew) became operational on Wednesday, 24 January. Users will continue to have access to the current system (Blue/White) until 0800 EST on Wednesday, 31 January. Users must copy all data to the new systems prior to 31 January. All data remaining in GPFS or NFS file systems will be lost when the system is shut down. 2. All users are expected to have access to the NWS Replacement Gateway and new TOC FTP server by 12Z Tuesday, 30 January 2007. At that time access to the legacy equipment will be terminated. The six month period for parallel GRIB1 and GRIB2 access will begin on Thursday, 1 February 2007 and end on Tuesday, 31 July. NCEP/NCO has public web resources available to aid users through this transition period. For information regarding product equivalents for GRIB1 and GRIB2 on the TOC servers (tgdata.nws.noaa.gov and tgftp.nws.noaa.gov), please see the following link: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/docs/GRIB1_to_GRIB2.shtml For information regarding a utility which converts GRIB2 to GRIB1 and vice-versa, please see the following link: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/codes/GRIB2/ 3. Upcoming changes to NCEP's production suite and details on any product or timing changes that are associated with upcoming implementations can be viewed at the following website: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/
