AMENDED TO INDICATE THE EFFECTIVE DATE FOR ENHANCING SERVICES PROVIDED BY NOAA/S NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ON ITS ADVANCED HYDROLOGIC PREDICTION SERVICE WEB PAGES IS POSTPONED FROM JULY 18 2007 UNTIL JULY 25 2007. ALSO AMENDED TO INCLUDE A WEBSITE FOR A SUMMARY OF NEW FEATURES.

BOTH CURRENT AND ENHANCED FEATURES ARE/WILL BE AVAILABLE AT:

A SUMMARY OF NEW FEATURES IS AVAILABLE AT:

NEW CAPABILITIES WILL INCLUDE BOTH NATIONAL AND LOCAL MAPS SHOWING FORECAST RIVER LEVELS AND DISTRIBUTION OF OBSERVED PRECIPITATION. THE RIVER LEVEL FORECASTS WILL COMPLEMENT EXISTING MAPS OF OBSERVED RIVER LEVELS.

PRECIPITATION INFORMATION WILL DISPLAY SPATIAL VARIATION AT A RESOLUTION OF 4 KM. PRECIPITATION INFORMATION WILL BE SIMILAR TO AN EXISTING EXPERIMENTAL SERVICE AT:

HTTP://WWW.SRH.NOAA.GOV/RFCSHARE/PRECIP_ANALYSIS_NEW.PHP

IN ADDITION MUCH OF THE INFORMATION DISPLAYED ON THESE WEB PAGES WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD THROUGH THE MECHANISMS DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS.

1. XML

OBSERVATIONS AND FORECAST VALUES AT OVER 3700 LOCATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD IN AN EXTENSIBLE MARKUP LANGUAGE /XML/ FORMAT. NOTE: THIS CAPABILITY ALREADY EXISTS. IT IS NOT A NEW FEATURE. THE SCHEMA USED IS DOCUMENTED AT /USE LOWER CASE LETTERS/:

2. RSS

OBSERVED AND FORECAST RIVER LEVELS WILL BE AVAILABLE THROUGH A REAL SIMPLE SYNDICATION /RSS/ SUBSCRIPTION. AN OPTION OF THE SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE WILL PROVIDE INFORMATION ONLY WHEN RIVER LEVELS APPROACH OR EXCEED FLOOD STAGE. THIS SERVICE IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON AN EXPERIMENTAL BASIS IN NORTHEASTERN PORTIONS OF THE COUNTRY. INFORMATION ON THE EXPERIMENTAL SERVICE IS AVAILABLE AT /USE LOWER CASE LETTERS/:

3. GIS

INFORMATION WILL BE PROVIDED IN TWO GEOSPATIAL FORMATS: /3.1/ SHAPEFILES AND /3.2/ KEYHOLE MARKUP LANGUAGE / KML/KMZ /.

   3.1 SHAPEFILES

A SHAPEFILE CONTAINING RIVER OBSERVATIONS AND A SECOND SHAPEFILE CONTAINING RIVER FORECASTS WILL BE UPDATED HOURLY. THESE SHAPEFILES WILL INCLUDE INFORMATION ABOUT OBSERVATION/FORECAST LOCATIONS INCLUDING LATITUDE...LONGITUDE...LOCATION NAME AND RIVER.

GRIDDED PRECIPITATION BASED ON A CURRENT EXPERIMENTAL SITE WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE IN SHAPEFILE FORMAT. FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE:

   3.2 KEYHOLE MARKUP LANGUAGE FILES

KML FILES DEPICTING BOTH RIVER OBSERVATIONS AND RIVER FORECASTS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE CONTIGUOUS UNITED STATES /CONUS/ AND ALASKA.

4. NETCDF
