[nws-changes] 20081108: MODIS, AIRS, AMSR-E update 2

NOTE: The nws-changes mailing list is no longer active. The list archives are made available for historical reasons.

UPDATE #2:

NASA reported to ESPC that they were unable to find anything physically wrong with their router.

A test is being arranged to test the fiber-optic cable connecting the systems, but that can not be done until tomorrow morning.

ESPC will be returning to NASA first thing in the morning to coordinate additional testing with NASA.

ESPC will continue with Linux processing and data storage.

UPDATE:

ESPC tested the switch and the GBIC involved and found no sign of a
problem on the NOAA side.

ESPC reported the matter to NASA and they have network engineers testing
the NASA side equipment for failures.

All raw RBD data is being delivered to NSOF. MODIS Level 1B data sets
are being generated in the Linux cluster and are being staged on the
outbound FTP gateway server. AQUA data is, likewise being processed and
stored.

Both AIRS and AMSR-E data is also being kept in the SGI transfer queue
for processing once connectivity is restored.

**
*Details of the Outage:
*
ESPC is experiencing a connectivity problem between ESPC and the SGI
servers at GSFC which are currently off-line.
We are unable to provide the SGIs with new data for processing, and we
believe all connectivity to NANUK is also off-line.
New data is still being delivered to our Linux cluster and production is
continuing there. Once network connectivity is restored,
the back-logged products will be made available on NANUK.

New information will be provided when it becomes available.

*Data Affected by the Outage:

*EOS Data (MODIS, AIRS, AMSR-E).

Applications affected: HMS, IMS. MODIS WIND, REMAP, LVAP, TPW, AMSR-E
(Rain, Ocean, Sea Ice and Snow),
