SUBJECT: SERIES OF PROBABILISTIC HURRICANE STORM SURGE PRODUCTS
        BECOME OPERATIONAL AND EXPAND IN THRESHOLDS: EFFECTIVE
        JUNE 1 2009

THE NWS PROVIDED THE PROBABILITIES OF STORM SURGE FROM 2 TO 10
FEET...AT ONE FOOT INTERVALS ON AN EXPERIMENTAL BASIS FOR THE
2008 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON. THE ONLY EXCEPTION WAS THE
PROBABILITY OF STORM SURGE AT 5 FEET...PROVIDED AS AN
OPERATIONAL PRODUCT IN 2008.

BASED ON COMMENTS FROM USERS...A NUMBER OF PROBABILISTIC STORM
SURGE PRODUCTS WILL BECOME OPERATIONAL FOR THE 2009 ATLANTIC
HURRICANE SEASON.  IN ADDITION...THERE WILL BE AN INCREASE IN
THE NUMBER OF PRODUCTS PRODUCED.

SPECIFICALLY...FOR THE 2009 ATLANTIC SEASON...THE NWS WILL ADD
THE PROBABILITIES OF STORM SURGE OUTPUT FROM 11 TO 25 FEET...AT
ONE FOOT INTERVALS. THE COMPLETE SUITE OF PRODUCTS...FROM 2
THROUGH 25 FEET...AT ONE FOOT INTERVALS...IS DEEMED OPERATIONAL
FOR 2009.
THESE PROBABILISTIC STORM SURGE PRODUCTS WILL ONLY BE GENERATED
WHEN HURRICANE WATCHES AND/OR WARNINGS ARE IN EFFECT FOR THE
ATLANTIC AND GULF COASTS OF THE CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES.
WHEN PRODUCED...GRAPHICAL VERSIONS OF THE PRODUCTS WILL BE
POSTED ONLINE AT /USE LOWER CASE LETTERS/:
