FUTURE EVENTS
For the Meteosat-8 and Meteosat-9 meteorological product generation, the
following changes will be introduced on the 2nd November 2009:

- The maximum size of the GTS bulletins shall be increased from 15 KB to 50 KB. - Within the Multi-sensor Precipitation Estimate (MPE) product generation the data from SSMI/S will be used in addition to SSM/I data, leading to an improved product coverage. - With respect to the GRIB products, the last two empty bytes in the header of the file before the GRIB data will be removed. - To the GRIB encoded divergence product (DIV) an additional field will be added: The wind speed field has been added (Parameter ID 15). - The surface type field in the AMV BUFR product will not any longer be set to undefined, but will adopt one of the following values: 0 for land surface, 1 for sea surface, 2 for coastal surface, 3 for missing information. In addition the treatment of the search area near the border of the processing mask close to 65 degrees has been improved, leading to more AMV derivations in the area between 62 and 65 degrees.
- To the BUFR encoded global instability (GII) product, the layer precipitable
water for the following layers have been added:
Surface - 850 hPa
850 - 500 hPa
500 hPa - Top of Atmosphere

Test files for the affected GRIB and BUFR products are available on FTP :

The Meteosat-8 Rapid Scanning Service will be interrupted from 17 November 2009
until 17 December 2009 for the annual one month full earth scanning.
Full earth scanning data (if any) will not be disseminated.*
