*Details:
*
QuikSCAT products being provided today remain of the same quality as those provided from the beginning of the mission. However, QuikSCAT is currently in its 10^th year of operation and showing signs of aging. Increased friction in the antenna spin mechanism will most likely result in a cessation of normal QuikSCAT operations within the next 6 months. As a preemptive move, the QuikSCAT processing system has been modified to prevent the propagation of any degraded products that would arise from a significant reduction in the antenna spin rate. This notice is to alert users to the status of QuikSCAT and the preemptive actions that have been taken in operational
processing system.

Please feel free to contact Paul Chang (STAR) and Hongming Qi (OSDPD) if you have any questions.

More details on the QuikSCAT products can be found at: http://manati.orbit.nesdis.noaa.gov/quikscat/
