20060804: Changes to CONDUIT data stream for 0.5 degree GFS and RUC grib2 products



CONDUIT Users,

On Wednesday August 9,  at approximately 18Z, the following 2 changes
will be implemented to the CONDUIT IDD data stream:

1) GFS 0.5 degree data will be expanded from 0-84 hours to 0-180 hours.

In order to provide the additional forecast time periods, the GRIB2
format GFS data product names will change from the tgftp.nws.noaa.gov
file names to the ftpprd.nws.noaa.gov file names. The naming convention
for the GFS 0.5 degree products is shown on the CONDUIT GFS data page
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/data/conduit/ldm_idd/gfs_files.html .  

2) RUC

RUC grids will be provided in GRIB2 format as a new data set. Users will
note the pressure levels grids are available at additional hourly output
times through F12 for synoptic times, and through F09 at off-synoptic
times. The file naming convention
for the ftpprd.nws.noaa.gov RUC grids is shown on the CONDUIT RUC data
page:

The additional volume of these data sets is 1.25 GB per GFS run (5GB per
day), and 253 MB per RUC (at synoptic times) run (about 5.5 GB per day).
Other currently available CONDUIT data sets will continue (including the
1.0 degree GFS grids in GRIB1) using the tgftp file server names at this
time. We will transition other file data sets to the
ftpprd.ncep.noaa.gov file source as sites are able to handle the
configuration changes to LDM pqact entries.
