Eric and Rich,

One of the action items from the recently held Users Committee meeting
was the possible cessation of floaters delivered in the FNEXRAD (NEXRAD
Level III floaters) and UNIWISC (GOES satellite imagery floaters) IDD
streams.

Given the very small number of responses (3 or 4) to the request for
comment that I sent to the community earlier this year, and given that
any site can easily tailor receipt of individual NEXRAD Level III
stations and/or products through the LDM/IDD, the committee decided to
proceed with discontinuing the radar floaters.

Since one site expressed a strong opinion that the satellite image
floaters should not be discontinued, it was decided to continue with
the satellite floaters while, at the same time, beginning a process of
educating the community about the availability of high resolution
satellite imagery through THREDDS servers.

I will be sending a note to the Unidata IDD community (via the
ldm-users email list) on behalf of the Users Committee to the effect
that the NEXRAD Level III floaters will be discontinued by the end of
March. I just wanted to touch base with you to let you know that this
announcement would be coming out in the next day or so, and to
personally thank you for the fantastic service you have provided for
the community in the selection of the NEXRAD floaters.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments on the
cessation of either floater service.

Cheers,

Tom
