MADIS real-time data users,

As many of you have heard, NOAA Research has been working with the NWS
to transition MADIS real-time processing into NWS operational
facilities that have the necessary infrastructure to fully operate and
maintain the system during 24-hour by 7-day operations. The Initial
Operating Capability (IOC) for the NWS MADIS system has now been
achieved, and we ask that MADIS real-time users switch their data
access prototcols as follows:

ldm users: ldm.madis-data.nws.noaa.gov
public data ftp users:      pftp.madis-data.nws.noaa.gov
restricted data ftp users: rftp.madis-data.nws.noaa.gov
web users: madis-data.nws.noaa.gov

All ldm, ftp, and web user authentication configuration tables have
been replicated on the new madis-data.nws.noaa.gov servers. Real-time
MADIS users should switch to the NWS MADIS system by 31 Jan 2011.

The NWS MADIS system is implemented as a distributed architecture
between the NWS Telecommunications Operations Center (TOC) and the NWS
National Centers for Environmental Prediction Central Operations
(NCO). The NOAA Research MADIS system that you are currently using at
the NOAA Research Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) Global
Systems Division (GSD) will be maintained as the backup to the NWS
MADIS system, and also as the developmental test facility for use in
developing and verifying software fixes, enhancements, and product
improvements before transition into NWS operations.

Outage and failover emails will be sent to MADIS real-time data users
by the NCO Senior Duty Meteorologist. The primary MADIS Helpdesk will
remain at ESRL/GSD, with backup support from the NCO.

Access to historic MADIS data will continue to be available and maintained
on the current ESRL/GSD MADIS system. Users who need data more than
a month old can continue to access that data on the ESRL/GSD system.

As always, thank you for your support and feedback,
