[Datastream #BSN-991118]: ASOS data

Hi Fabien,

re:

Sorry for the slow reply.

The data streams used by the TDS to populate its content are, in a large
part, populated with the data that the U.S. National Weather Service
chooses to include in its NOAAPort Satellite Broadcast Network. Part
of the data that the NWS includes in NOAAPort is derived from the GTS,
but not all of the observations included in the GTS are included
in NOAAPort (the NWS only sends data products that they deem necessary
for the U.S. Weather Forecasting Offices (WFOs)). Because of this, it
is my best guess that a large number of international ASOS reports
are _not_ included in NOAAPort, so they won't be available in TDS
catalogs.

We have been working with the folks in charge of the inclusion of
GTS data in NOAAPort to see if we can get access to the entire GTS
so we could make it available to our community. One of the challenges
we will face if/when we get access to the full GTS is the need to
eliminate distribution of products that have prohibitions from
re-introduction into the originating country. These are commonly
referred to as WMO Resolution 40 products.

Cheers,

Tom
