Hi Seth,
      The problem you described here looks like the netCDF file you tried to 
load to the IDV is not in good shape.
I tried the ftp site but not seeing the dataset, it may expired already. Can 
you attached a sample file if it is not too big, or you can upload a sample 
file here:
