[IDV #MXT-681298]: Wind Speed Formula Error

Greetings Patrick,

The issue is that the wind speed formula expects a 2D field. While
at first glance the 250 mb data may seem like a 2D field, it's
actually 3D - the level dimension is singular (i.e. has one value, 250mb),
but that still makes it a 3D field. In order to use the windspeed
formula, you will need to make u and v 2D fields.

To do this, first select the windspeed formula:

Grids->Speed from 2 components:

Then, for u and v, select the "Make slice 2D" formula:

u: Formulas->Grids->Make slice 2D
v : Formulas->Grids->Make slice 2D

then click OK.

Now you will be prompted to select the variables to pass
into Make slice 2D - this is where you would need to specify
the U and V components.

It's a bit of clicking around, but that's how you would go
about doing it.

Cheers,

Sean
