Gilbert,

re: I have no idea of what you are referring to. LOT feed? NOWRAD feed going
to what?

>Oops, I mean if I wanted to display NOWRAD or LOT radar products on
>McIDAS, it needs to go into this new decoder, right?

No. The pnga2area decoder only converts imagery that has been PNG compressed
by the complementary routine area2png. The CIMSS images will be the first
to be compressed with area2png. We will transition to compression of all
Unidata-Wisconsin (LDM MCIDAS feed type) images sometime this summer.

nids2area was mentioned to not be needed since you can service NIDS products
directly in McIDAS (through an ADDE server that I have been including in
the distribution for quite some time).

NOWRAD does not go through nids2area, only NIDS. However, you can service
both NIDS and NOWRAD through McIDAS ADDE servers, so nids2area is not really
needed (unless you want to store the images in McIDAS AREA format).
