I don't know.  If the option "-DNDEBUG" was used to compile the file
"pq/pq.c", then assertions were disabled.  If the log file indicated
that an assertion failure occurred in that file, then assertions
were enabled.  If I were you, I'd investigate the log file, the file
"make.log", and the timestamps of those files, the LDM program, and the
"pq.o" object-module in the LDM library.

I think assertions were enabled by default in earlier versions of the
LDM.
