I believe the problem is due to the formatting of the "syslogd"
configuration-file, /etc/syslog.conf.  The entry for the LDM
contains spaces -- instead of tabs -- between the selector field,
"local2.debug", and the action field, "/usr/local/unidata/ldm/logs/ldmd.log".
If you change the spaces to tab, then I think it will work.
