In the first pass through, I'd turn off all unnecessary running software /
kernel modules.
Without carefully looking at what you're doing, do you need the following;
auditd, avahi-daemon, bluetooth, cups, dhcdbd, hidd, hplip, icecast, ip6tables,
isdn,
mcstrans, nasd, smartd, sysstat
