Hi Gilbert,

>Although I have been busy, it looks like purchasing may take another month
>for me to get the equipment. So, I think I had better upgrade my McIDAS to
>v2003.

Sounds reasonable.

>I upgraded the LDM-McIDAS decoders a few months ago, so that should be
>fine (on all 3 of my machines, weather, weather2, and
>weather3.admin.niu.edu). I'll take you up on your offer for a quick
>install on weather and weather2 (don't worry about weather3; it's not fast
>enough anymore to handle it, I don't think). And hopefully, I'll get the
>new machines in November. It's in purchasing right now.

I upgraded weather2 a little while ago. I will look at weather after
I see that all is well on weather2.

The upgrade required that I do three thing:

- download, unpack, build, and install v2003; the installation was
done while the LDM was stopped

- adjust entries in ~mcidas/data/LSSERVE.BAT to incorporate new dataset
entries in the CIMSS, RTPTSRC, and RTWXTEXT groups; make these
mods active using the McIDAS BATCH command from the ~mcidas/workdata
  directory:

  batch.k LSSERVE.BAT

- rerun the XCD setup scripts to create the rapid access files fo the
new ETA and GFS MOS data (also run from the ~mcidas/workdata directory):

  batch.k XCD.BAT
  batch.k XCDDEC.BAT

- adjust the entries in ~ldm/decoders/mcscour.sh; added the scouring of
the new MD files produced for ETA and GFS MOS output

The same things will need to be done on weather if it is also running
XCD decoders.

>Thanks for any and all help!

No worries.

Tom,

Further complication!

I just got my 2 computers and network switch in THIS MORNING. I am heading
for Germany November 1-10. Yikes! Ah, timing is everything, but I want to
get one of the new ones up as weather3 before I go, at least get started
on it. Stay tuned...
