[McIDAS #FJK-741072]: question

How you would get the brightness temperature will depend on the type of
data you are using.  For instance, if the image(s) you have are in
McIDAS AREA format and have been scaled to 0-254, then the two-slope
mapping between brightness and temperature should apply:

Temperature    Brightness
 163           255
 241.9999      177
 242           176
 330           0

Albedo is another thing altogether.  The problem with albedo is that
the visible channel on GOES spacecraft are only calibrated once before
launch.  If the images you have are significantly after launch of
the platform, some approximations will need to be made to estimate
the albedo from the detector(s) which are slowly changing.  The best
advice I can give is to do some web searching to see find techniques
employed by others.
