[netCDF #JCH-175635]: 4.0.1: (FORTRAN + netcdf-4 + no HDF5DIR) = bug

That's OK, it's good to be reminded of these things.  I'm pretty sure it's
fixed in the release candidate version 4.1.1rc2, which we hope to turn into
a real 4.1.1 release soon.
