Maggie,

Jeff's wife did have a baby, so he will be unable to respond to your
inquiry for a couple of days (??).

I am unable to ldmping either of the machines you referenced in
your reply to Jeff:

% ldmping 117.16.1.45
Jan 25 23:28:18 State Elapsed Port Remote_Host rpc_stat
Jan 25 23:28:28 SVC_UNAVAIL 9.998023 0 117.16.1.45
h_clnt_create(117.16.1.45): Timed out while creating connection

% ldmping 198.215.11.31
Jan 25 23:28:51 State Elapsed Port Remote_Host rpc_stat
Jan 25 23:29:01 SVC_UNAVAIL 9.996165 0 198.215.11.31
h_clnt_create(198.215.11.31): Timed out while creating connection

This typically indicates that the LDM is not running on these machines,
that port 388 is not accessible by the machine I ran the ldmpings from
(shemp.unidata.ucar.edu), or that there is no allow for machines from
the unidata.ucar.edu domain in your LDM's ~ldm/etc/ldmd.conf file.

Can you check to make sure that port 388 is not blocked and that there
is an allow for Unidata machines in your ldmd.conf file? If you find that
you have to modify ldmd.conf, please remember that you will need to stop
and restart your LDM for the changes to take effect.

An allow for Unidata machines in ~ldm/etc/ldmd.conf will look like:

allow ANY
    ^((localhost|loopback)|(127\.0\.0\.1\.?$)|([a-z].*\.unidata\.ucar\.edu\.?$))

Stopping and restarting the LDM is accomplished by:

<as 'ldm'>
cd ~ldm
ldmadmin stop
<wait for all LDM processes to exit>
ldmadmin start

Please forgive me if I am repeating information you have already been
provided.
