Hi Ghansham, this dataset: http://motherlode.ucar.edu:9080/thredds/catalog/grib/NCEP/DGEX/CONUS_12km/catalog.html?dataset=grib/NCEP/DGEX/CONUS_12km/best contains the variables: "v-component of wind @ Isobaric surface" and "u-component of wind @ Isobaric surface" but it does not have any: "wind @ Isobaric surface" Here is the list of variables that are actually in the dataset: http://motherlode.ucar.edu:9080/thredds/metadata/grib/NCEP/DGEX/CONUS_12km/best?metadata=variableMap However, if you look in the list of variables available in WMS: http://motherlode.ucar.edu:9080/thredds/wms/grib/NCEP/DGEX/CONUS_12km/best?service=WMS&version=1.3.0&request=GetCapabilities you'll see the variable "wind @ Isobaric surface" that comes from the two components and all the vector styles available for it.
