THREDDS Data Server version 4.2.4

The THREDDS Data Server version 4.2.4 was made available as the stable release on February 22, 2011. This version is recommended for all users, including production servers. The latest update can be downloaded at https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/downloads/thredds.

Version 4.2.4 includes the following changes:

  • featureCollection extended to point data
  • ncISO included in distribution (thanks to Dave Neufeld and Ted Habermann, NOAA/NGDC)
  • Added projection EPSG:3857 (used by GoogleMaps) to default CRS list used in WMS GetCapabilities documents
  • Various other bug fixes

NetCDF-Java version 4.2.20

The NetCDF-Java/CDM library version 4.2.20 was released on February 16, 2011. The latest update can be downloaded from the NetCDF Java Library page at https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf-java/. This is mostly a bug fix release, and we encourage you to switch to using it for all your work.

February 2011 Status Update: NAWIPS Migration to AWIPS II

The month of January was extremely busy for the National Weather Services' NCEP Central Operations, according to Chief of Systems Integration Michelle Mainelli. Activities included finalizing the first version of the AWIPS II software, preparing AWIPS II workstations for demonstration at the American Meteorological Society meeting in Seattle, and finalizing the configuration of the AWIPS II test bed located at the World Weather Building in Camp Springs, MD.

"On January 12th, we submitted our AWIPS II baseline NCEP Perspective to the NWS Office of Science and Technology," says Mainelli. "We expect to see the NAWIPS migrated functionality in the AWIPS II release from Raytheon Technical Services by the end of March 2011. NCEP will continue to provide software updates to Unidata until that time."
