2011 Community Equipment Awards

Unidata is happy to announce the Community Equipment Award recipients for 2011. Eight institutions received funding this year:

  • New Mexico State University
  • Pennsylvania State University
  • Rutgers University
  • San Jose State University
  • Texas A&M University
  • University of Colorado / CIRES
  • University of Salento & CMCC, Italy
  • University of South Florida

This year, special consideration was given to proposals that:

  • Include installation of either the THREDDS Data Server or a RAMADDA server (or both) to share data relevant to furthering Unidata's mission with the community at-large. This includes but is not limited to data from real-time IDD/LDM feeds, local observations, data from local modeling efforts, case study collections, and climate data.
  • Include installation of a prototype AWIPS II EDEX server, when AWIPS II is made available in the Fall 2011 time frame, to share data relevant to furthering Unidata's mission with the community at-large. Unidata's technical staff stands ready to assist with installation and configuration of this server.

We received a total of nine responses to the 2011 RFP and, as noted, funded eight of them, partially or fully. That success rate is sufficiently high that it should encourage those of you who may have hesitated to apply in the past.

We invite you to provide suggestions for the focus of future Equipment Award RFPs, and to keep your eyes open for the 2012 announcement. To get an idea of the wide range of recipient institutions and projects, including copies of successful proposals, visit the Equipment Awards page.
