Want to hang out with the MetPy developers, but can't make it to the Unidata Program Center? Crank up your podcast app and spend a pleasant hour with Unidata's Ryan May, Sean Arms, and John Leeman, who visited with host Tobias Macey of the Podcast.__init__ podcast last week.
Podcast.__init__ bills itself as “the podcast about Python and the people who make it great.” Macey has been hosting the series since 2015, touching on all manner of topics of interest to the Python development community. In researching Python use in the atmospheric sciences, he came across the MetPy project, which aims to bring robust, Python-based scientific workflows to the geoscience community. Macey then sought out Unidata's MetPy developers for a recorded conversation, giving them a forum to describe how they each came to join the community of Python developers, discuss the origins of the MetPy project, and talk about some of the coding challenges specific to working with observational data alongside output from numerical models.
