Users of the Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) are encouraged to update their installations to version 6.0 or later as soon as possible. Changes in the UCAR/Unidata web infrastructure may cause earlier versions of the IDV to perform sluggishly.
The current version of the package is 6.0u1 (update 1); it is available for download from the IDV Downloads page. Information about features in the IDV 6.0 release is available in What's New in IDV 6.0.
Background
As part of a UCAR-wide web infrastructure modernization project, Unidata will be transitioning its primary web site in the coming months. As a result of this transition, several web-based resources used by the IDV will be relocated to new online locations. While Unidata is working to ensure that requests for the IDV resources are directed to the new location automatically, versions of the IDV that implement older security protocols may not handle the redirection seamlessly. Updating to version 6.0 or later will ensure that the Unidata-supplied web resources are loaded properly.
Note that the older versions of the IDV will continue to work, but may experience delays on startup while attempting to load the Unidata-supplied resource files.
