NSF Unidata Update: December 2024

Upcoming deadlines to be aware of:

24 January Applications for the NSF Unidata 2025 Summer Student Internship program will be due. Stay tuned for a full announcement in early December.
28 February Applications for the AWIS 2025 scholarships are due.
28 March Applications for the NSF Unidata 2025 Community Equipment Awards program are due.

Highlights from last month:

NetCDF operators (NCO) version 5.3.0

Version 5.3.0 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.

NSF Unidata Staff at AMS 2025 Meeting

Members of the NSF Unidata Program Center staff will be attending the 105th annual American Meteorology Society meeting, to be held 12-16 January 2025 in New Orleans, LA. Our schedule lists sessions or posters presented by staff members. We'll also be spending time in the UCAR booth (#323) in the main Exhibit hall.

NSF Unidata Summer Student Internships Available!

The NSF Unidata Summer Internship offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to work with NSF Unidata Program Center staff on projects drawn from a wide variety of areas in the atmospheric and computational sciences. Apply for the 2025 internship by 24 January 2025.

Association for Women in Science 2025 Scholarships

The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) has announced its 2025 scholarship program, with applications due by February 28, 2025. The program includes awards for undergraduate students, doctoral students, and women re-entering the STEM workforce.

IDV 6.3

IDV

The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 6.3 is available now. This is a major release and is recommended for all users. It can be downloaded from the NSF Unidata downloads site.

On the Developer's Blog

NSF Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. The ongoing MetPy Mondays series discusses customizing SkewT plots and using units with Matplotlib plots.

Governing Committee News

NSF Unidata's Users Committee met in a joint session with the Strategic Advisory Committee September 25-28, 2024. The Users Committee will meet next in the Spring of 2025.
