Tara Drwenski

Tara Drwenski joined the Unidata Program Center software development team on February 28, 2022. After obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Tulsa, Tara did a Master's and PhD in Theoretical Physics at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, completing her PhD in 2018.

During her PhD, she studied the liquid crystal phases of colloidal particles, specifically, how the shape of the particles affects the phases they can form. Her research involved numerical computations of non-linear integral equations, and she discovered she really liked the programming aspect of her work. She also loved meeting other researchers at schools and conferences and learning about their work. The last three years, Tara has worked as a Software Engineer and especially enjoys collaborating with others to produce high-quality software.

Tara is excited to join Unidata where she can combine her passions for science and software. As a newcomer to the atmospheric sciences, she looks forward to learning about the ongoing research in the field. Tara will be working on the THREDDS Data Server and NetCDF-Java projects, and she is excited to contribute to tools that so many researchers and educators use, and looks forward to meeting users!

In her spare time, Tara enjoys reading, cooking, watching Star Trek, as well as playing various types of games (board games, computer games, and tabletop RPGs). She is a new resident of Boulder and looks forward to biking, hiking, and sailing in beautiful Colorado with her partner.

Please help us welcome Tara to the Unidata Program Center Team!
