Pete Pokrandt Receives 2019 DeSouza Award
Pete Pokrandt of the University of Wisconsin, Madison has been awarded the 2019 Russell L. DeSouza Award by the Unidata Users committee. The DeSouza Award honors “individuals whose energy, expertise, and active involvement enable the Unidata Program to better serve the geosciences.”
MetPy 0.11.0 and 0.11.1 Released
MetPy 0.11.0 was released with a variety of fixes and enhancements. MetPy 0.11.x releases will be the last to support Python 2.7. MetPy 0.11.1 was released with several bugfixes for 0.11.0, including fixes for compatibility with XArray v0.14.
NetCDF 4.7.2
Version 4.7.2 of the netCDF-C library is now available. This release primarily corrects an error the Unidata netCDF team has been observing on newer versions of OSX, but additional improvements are included as well.
NetCDF-Java library version 5.2.0 Released
The Unidata THREDDS Development Team is happy to announce the availability of version 5.2.0
of the NetCDF-Java/Common Data Model (CDM) library.

Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. The ongoing MetPy Mondays series celebrated its 100th episode with a look at MetPy 0.11; subsequent episodes delved into making subplots, storing plotting parameters, and using configuration files.
Governing Committee News
Unidata's Users Committee met 1-2 October 2019 in Boulder, CO (in a joint meeting with the Strategic Advisory Committee). The meeting summary will be available shortly. The next meeting is scheduled for 2-3 April 2020 in Boulder, CO.
