The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 5.7 is now available. This release features enhanced color tables, support for NWS Hazard Warning KML files, enhanced support for vertical profiles, and several new formulas. In addition, the release includes updates to existing features and incorporates the latest netCDF-Java library.
New Formulas
IDV 5.7 adds formulas for use with products from the GOES satellite Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), the Advanced Himawari Imager (AHI), and Meteosat-8 through 11 (MSG). The new formulas will create displays of RGB and band-subtraction products; they can be found under Satellite in the Formulas sub-tab of the Field Selector tab in the IDV Dashboard. The appropriate derived fields are automatically added to the Field Selector when the selected data source includes the bands required to create the product.
In addition, IDV now includes formulas specific to gridded datasources to calculate Saturation Equivalent Potential Temperature, Heat Index, Helicity, Ellrod Index, LP Index, and Richardson number.
Additional Color Tables
IDV 5.7 includes new and enhanced color tables, including tables matching those used in the Common AWIPS Visualization Environment (CAVE) and customized color tables for satellite products. Adjust color tables by selecting the Displays tab in the IDV Dashboard.
NWS Hazard Warnings
NWS Tornado, Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood, and Special Marine Warning KML files are now supported. A new menu item has been added to access the official NWS Warnings site directly under Special sub-menu of the Data menu.
Profile Datasets
IDV 5.7 supports the Common Data Model's Profile feature collection datasets. Profile data is a set of data points along a vertical line, potentially including a collection of a time series of profile features at named locations. Load a Profile data you have saved locally by selecting RAOB under Soundings in the Data Choosers tab, then selecting the Soundings:Local subtab.
