After years of growing use, the CF conventions have outgrown informal maintenance by their original authors. An international meeting recently resulted in agreement on a transition to a new maintenance and development structure for CF.

• A White paper is available on "Maintaining and Advancing the CF Standard for Earth System Science Community Data", Bryan Lawrence, et al
• A new web site is maintained for discussions, maintenance: http://cfconventions.org/
• Funded staff is now supporting CF at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and British Atmospheric Data Centre
• A CF Governance Panel is now in existence, responsible for stewardship not technical content
• WMO/WCRP Working Group on Coupled Modeling (WGCM) will most probably provide institutional sponsorship
• Two CF committees:

• Standard Names
