11.5 Unicode Names
Use of Unicode in names provides better support for international uses.
- Unicode, encoded using UTF-8, may be used for names of
variables, dimensions, attributes, groups, and types
- UTF-8 encoding is used, so all names that use only ASCII characters are backward
compatible
- This feature has not been tested much in netCDF-4
- There may be issues with CDL, NcML, conventions, and utilities
like ncdump, ncgen, and NCO
