The CF conventions grows as new needs arise, proposals are put forward, disucussions take place, and the proposals get accepted or rejected.

Future directions for additions to CF will include

Model ensembles
Structured grids (staggered, nested, triangular, mosaic)
Unstructured Grids
References to external data and standards for multifile datasets
Discovery information
Use of the netCDF-4 data model and format
