Hmmm,

Hmmm, try the command "rpcinfo -p".  It should give you info about the ports in
use on your machine.  It will be interesting to see if it can find the 
portmapper.

Do you have a firewall?   They can cause problems.  The ldm is coded to first
check to see if our reserved port 388 is available.  If not, then it checks in
with the portmapper on port 111.   If you have a firewall, your sysadmin should
simply open port 388.  Opening port 111 should not be necessary.  If neither 
port
is open that could also explain the lack of connection to the portmapper.

We had a similar situation where in the process of installing a firewall someone
had moved their
portmapper to run at run-time level 4, but the ldm needs to have it at level 3.
Could that have happened to your
machine?
