Hi Pat,

I'm glad notifyme is working for you.  No, I don't think you need to modify
netcheck.conf.

In  order for the logs messages to appear, you need to have added an entry to 
the
/etc/syslog.conf  file.  The instructions for what to do are on the page:
http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/ldm/ldmPreInstallList.html.  See the 
section called
"Configuring the Operating System as root".

Add this entry, then try to start the ldm again.  You should see some messages 
in the
log file, which should give you a clue as to what the start problem is.
