The Atmospheric Science Group in the Department of Geosciences at Texas Tech University seeks applications for a full time, non-tenure-track Research Assistant Professor. Evaluation of candidates will begin January 18, 2015 and continue until the position is filled. A start date as soon as January 2016 is possible. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
The successful candidate will advance atmospheric science by bridging the computational gap between production of observations of the atmosphere and their analysis, especially as regards synthesis of structured and unstructured data in large volumes from diverse observation platforms and specialties within the atmospheric sciences. Of particular interest are efforts that accelerate data analysis and promote physical insight by connecting mature computing technologies and algorithms. The ideal candidate will develop innovative techniques adapted from other scientific disciplines, including those that take advantage of state of the art machine learning and big data / data science tools and workflows from other disciplinary communities.
