Strategic Focus Areas

GEMPAK work supports the following Unidata funding proposal focus areas:

1. Broadening participation and expanding community services
   Not sure exactly how to *broaden* participation
2. Advancing data services
   New product handling capabilities and display methods.
3. Developing and deploying useful tools
   I would hope these tools are considered useful.
4. Enhancing user support services
   Doing my part to respond to support requests and discussions in a timely-manner.

Activities Since the Last Status Report

GEMPAK 6.4.0 Release

The UPC release of GEMPAK 6.4.0 was made available in October 2011.

• Support for NEXRAD dual-polarization level III products:
  • Digital Differential Reflectivity
  • Digital Correlation Coefficient
  • Digital Specific Differential Phase
  • Digital Hydrometeor Classification
  • Storm Total Accumulation
  • Digital Accumulation Array
  • Digital Storm Total Accumulation
  • Digital User-Selectable Accumulation
  • Digital One-Hour Difference Accumulation
  • Digital Storm Total Difference Accumulation
  • Hybrid Hydrometeor Classification
• The plotted values of NEXRAD high-resolution digital vertically integrated liquid (DVL) were corrected from GEMPAK v6.3.0.
• Plotting of NIDS VAD (Velocity-Azimuth Display) products was fixed to remove unwanted background maps from being drawn in GPMAP/GPNEXR2/NMAP2.
• Adjustments to N0Q (high-resolution base reflectivity) color bar were made for GPMAP/NMAP2, eliminating the unneccessary drawing of blank ranges associated with high (>75) and low (<0) dBZ values. Also removed the trailing decimal places after the dBZ value (displaying 5 dBZ integers rather than floating point numbers, as requested by users).
• Added support for High-res Enhanced Echo Tops (EET)
• Fix for GPNEXR2 handling of NEXRAD Level2 archive files.

GEMPAK RAMADDA Script Repository

Browsable/Uploadable/Downloadable scripts with attached example images. Still not well-integrated into the GEMPAK website.

• Clean up NIDS product selection dialog in NMAP2.
• National high-res composite images added to the IDD.
• Full suite of UPC updates merged into next NCEP NAWIPS release.
• Comprehensive UPC-hosted high-res level3 NIDS product portal.
