The Unidata Community Equipment Awards program received sixteen proposals for review. The total (including overhead) FY03 pool was $203,000 vs. total requests of $328,425.
A panel of four community members and two Unidata staff met on June 19th to review all of the proposals and come to consensus on awards. Joanne Graham and Sherri Corpuz facilitated the meeting. After thorough consideration of all of the proposals with relation to the criteria set out in the request for proposals, the Panel made the following award recommendations (note: this chart does not include overhead calculated on the direct cost):

Mohan Ramamurthy reviewed and accepted all panel decisions. Subsequently, an award or declination letter was sent to each of the applicants with the exception of Universidad de Buenos Aires which was sent later (more information later in this report). All of the contracts left Unidata prior to the end of July, and negotiations with Universities were final for most of the awardees by mid-August.
Prior to establishing a contract with the Universidad de Buenos Aires, Unidata, in consultation with its NSF sponsors, sent the proposal to the MeteoForum* project for review. MeteoForum committed to funding the portion of the proposal that was left unfunded by the Unidata panel. Notice of award was sent to the University in early September, and we await information so that we can finalize a contract.
Unidata is working on a schedule for FY04 which will allow the process for Equipment Awards to be completed by late spring-early summer of 2004. This will probably mean advertising beginning in January.
