OPeNDAP/DODS and Unidata
Unidata's involvement in the OPeNDAP/DODS project lies mainly in
user support, developer support, and release engineering. As a
project that focuses on protocols and software for accessing
distributed data, OPeNDAP/DODS project fits into endeavor 5
("Distributed, organized collections of digital material") and
endeavor 6 ("Improved data access infrastructure") of the
Unidata 2008 proposal.
Unidata's support role to the OPeNDAP/DODS community falls into
Unidata 2008 endeavor 2 (Comprehensive Support Services, [Data
services, systems, and tools]"). Endeavor 1 ("Responding to a
broader and more diverse community" ) is also relavent due to
the OPeNDAP/DODS communities extent beyond Unidata's traditional
community.
Status
- OPeNDAP/DODS Developers Workshop (19-21 March 2003):
The presentations and the breakout discussions demonstrated
the extensive use and the success of the OPeNDAP/DODS
software. There was also wide interest in collaborations
between OPeNDAP/DODS and the THREDDS project. A

- An OPeNDAP/DODS all-day technical workshop was held at the ESIP Federation Workship
(31 July 2003). The workshop demonstrated a number of OPeNDAP-enabled data access and
analysis packages including: Ferret and the Live Access Server (LAS) from PMEL, GrADS
and the GrADS/DODS Server from COLA, a georeferenced MATLAB graphical user interface
from URI, IDV from Unidata, ncBrowse from PMEL, the OPeNDAP Data Connector from URI and
three OPeNDAP-GIS access capabilities - ArcIMS, GeoTIFF output, and WMS.

OPeNDAP/DODS Unidata Support Usage statistics
- DODS C++ 3.4 beta releases, including Release Candidate RC1, RC2, RC3.
- New release of the
OPeNDAP/DODS Java 1.1.3. This is a supplemental release of
OPeNDAP/DODS Java 1.1
that contains a number of bug fixes including a fix to a
regular expression problem in DRDS.
- Retrospective Access to NCEP Models is now available at
NCDC, a GrADS-DODS Server (GDS) is open for public access to
Eta, mesoEta, GFS (AVN/MRF) and RUC models. Data are
available in near real-time, and retrospectively dating back
to May 2002.
