Status Update
A summary of working THREDDS catalog servers and analysis and display tools
is available at:
<http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/projects/THREDDS/currentwork.html>
A few highlights are:
Expanding the available servers and clients:
Keep our current data providers involved and add THREDDS capability for:
- Web Services data providers (Follow up on contact with Wenli Yang at GMU
and UAH people)
- OpenGIS (This is closely related to web services; Follow up on contacts
with Stefano as well as with Carl Reed and George Schellof OGC). This evolution
will provide interfaces in the future.
- Legacy GIS (Follow up on many contacts at ESRI, including Jack Dangermond).
ESRI is providing tools for data providers to make their data available via
the web. They are also interested in our 5D visualization capabilities. They
also have considerable experience with and a deployed system for metadata
and discovery. See for example, the Geography
Network.
- GRID (Follow up with Luca and the other ESG people)
Keep our current data access and display sites involved and add:
- Education oriented GIS client (Pin things down with Danny Edelson at Northwestern)
Tools for automated metadata generation form basic THREDDS catalogs:
- Gazetteers (UCSB, Linda Hill and Jim Frew)
- Disciplinary ontologies and the semantic web(Rob Raskin at JPL and Stefano's
multilingual European group)
- Data mining (UAH, Steve Tanner)
- ESML generator (UAH, Rahul Ramachandran)
New Interdisciplinary coordination
- GEON (Follow up with Chuck Meertens)
- CUAHSI (Follow up with Anton Kruger)
Etc.
We should also consider the relationship to our DLESE Data Services proposal
partners: Tamara Ledley at TERC and Mike Taber of U of Northern Colorado.
