Activities

    Unidata received NCEP release R1G1-6 in February, 2011. The next scheduled release will be R1G2-9 (based on Raytheon release OB11.2) in April, 2011.

    Positives:
    • Improved data ingest / decoding using the LDM: grid, mcidas satellite images, text (uair, lightning, watch/warn)
    • RPM packages simplify installation
    • NSHARP functionality added

    Challenges:
    • Irregular EDEX server segmentation faults
    • Irregular EDEX ingest delays
    • Considerable lag in CAVE: resource/data dialogs loading, selecting menu items, window drawing and data display.
    • Lengthy startup time.

Ongoing/Planned

    Concern about availability of AWIPS-II source code through NOAA for Unidata development
    Lobbying / encouraging 64-bit support.
