Hi all, I'll make some comments on this post, even though I am maybe not the best qualified: 1) In the case of meteosat's (second generation) seviri instrument, we are getting both visible bands as reflectances (unit:%) and ir bands as brightness temperatures (units:K). They have the same properties exactly except for the unit. 3) I agree about your first suggestion (for storing a sequence of images for example) but I don't understand the second one: isn't wavelength a characteristic of the band ? Can you have several wavelength in one band ?
