Inquiry: I've been unable to get gribtonc working on a new CPU.  The
only error I get is a write error.   I get a 16384 byte file in the
directory I'm trying to place the output netcdf file in.

Netcdf is installed in an /ops/tools/bin area on my PCU instead of a
standard /usr/bin area and I'm wondering if gribtonc needs the netcdf
lib and or binaries to exist in /usr/lib and /usr/bin directories ?
and or I need to allow user ldm write permission somewhere special for
the TMPxxxxxx.NUM file?

Teresa,

The write error is usually the result of not enough disk space to write
the data to the netcdf file.  Since the gribtonc allocates all the space
for the next record at one time, the original netcdf file will be created
but the data cannot be entered because of space limitations.  I would run
gribtonc from the command line from the ldm home dir as user ldm. A good
rule of thumb is that the netcdf file is 8-10 larger then the original
grib files.  So a 8meg file ends up to be 80 mgs netcdf, this is the
biggest drawback of netcdf.
