Andrew / Ben / Arliss, This use case ties in very well with the work on the European ECOOP project (European Coastal Operational Oceanography Platform). Here we are looking at how the various OO networks around Europe can deliver a standard 'Ocean Weather ' product. The scenario is based on someone operating a decision support tool who would like to get 'all data of a given parameter' in the same space:time window (i.e. Get_OceanWeather@XYZT). The user wishes to inter-compare all modelled and observed data to determine the spread in values. Central to this is the ability to have some ways of serving up the different coverage types Ben highlights such that some client can process them sensibly. So, ECOOP can both contribute to solving and also adopt some of the outputs. First thing ECOOP is looking at is point observation data. "how to model it and how to deliver it" in a workshop on March 5th/6th involving many of the EC projects looking at this problem. The nub of the workshop is to look at what exists (NetCDF conventions, CSML, Dapper, WFS and WCS) to determine a best implementation route for ECCOP (where many of the partners have bought into NetCDF CF / OpenDAP for gridded data). It would be good to table the current status of the NetCDF Obs convention at the workshop so an update of its current status would be useful. Regards Keiran
